Imbichi Bava is the most political personality
that modern Ponnani contributed to the nation.
He was One of the foremost leader of Communist
Party of India (Marxist) from Malabar. Born on
20th July,1917 at Ezhukudickal in Ponnani. Even
as a student he began to work for public causes.
Slowly attracted towards leftist thoughts, he
started his political career at first with Congress
Socialist Party and subsequently with the Communist
party. . |
He
plunged into the nationalist movement in the country
and played a remarkable role in establishing the
'Labour Movements' and communist party in the
state.
He participated in the Calcutta
Congress held in 1946 as One of the foremost leader
of Communist Party of India (Marxist) from Malabar.He
was a member of the National Council of Communist
Party of India before its split. He has undergone
prison terms and gone underground many times in
connection with party work.
He became a Rajya Sabha Member in 1952. He was
also a Lok Sabha member in 1962 from Ponnani.
He was a Minister for Transport in the EMS Ministry
of 1967 .Imbichi bava also caught attention as
the member of parliament (MP) at the national
level, when he dared to break the norms and deliver
speech in his mother tounge 'Malayalam' at the
parliament session.
He was
the MLA from Ponnani when he died on 11th April
1995 at the age of 78. |
